New Patients
New Patient Information
We are excited you chose East Texas Children’s Dentistry as your child’s dental care team. We emphasize preventative care and strive to provide a low-stress and high-quality level of pediatric dental care at our office in Mt. Pleasant, TX. Our goal is to maintain good oral health for every child with as few restorative visits as possible and to motivate children to develop good oral hygiene habits today to help prevent dental disease in the future.
What To Expect at the First Visit
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children visit the dentist before their first birthday. At the first visit, we will ask you to fill out the new patient forms, so we can complete a comprehensive review of your medical and dental history.
We will then complete a thorough examination which may include:
Dental X-rays
X-rays are done to check for dental cavities, missing teeth, infection, the position of unerupted teeth, or any other abnormalities. If any need repair, we will examine them and make suggestions for those that can be protected with regular home care, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. X-rays are recommended every 12 months, depending on previous dental history.
Soft Tissue Examination
A Dental Prophylaxis
How to Prepare For the First Visit
Children often cry at their first appointment. We are prepared for that response since it’s a normal reaction to fear, but anything you can do at home to alleviate their fears ahead of time will make the appointment go smoother. We will work on our end to establish a trusting relationship with the child and help to eliminate the fear.
We don’t like to separate children from their parents or caregivers at the first visit since it can be an overwhelming experience. Please be prepared to stay with them at first, but you are not required to be present for future appointments.
